Subscribe to the GLLU Newsletter: On the GLLU web site we will do our best to keep all of our interested communities on top of what's going on with the unit and the Metropolitan Police Department. Check back regularly and if you would like to receive our e-newsletter with important information, subscribe by sending an e-mail message to 'GLLUNewsletter-join@gllu.org'. No need to put anything in the subject line or body of the message. You will then be sent an e-mail confirmation notice that you must reply to in order to subscribe. This prevents mischievous (or malicious) people from creating a subscription without your consent. It's a pain but it protects you.
A Message About the Special Liaison Unit
Brett Parson recently posted a message to the metropolitan area. He envisions a Special Liaison Unit (SLU) that recognizes the importance of strong and continuous communication and bonds with the communities we serve, while maintaining a visible law enforcement presence in every part of the District of Columbia. He hopes to standardize those aspects of the SLU that have commonality and share resources where appropriate and beneficial. Most importantly, he expects each unit (Latino Liaison Unit, Asian Liaison Unit, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Unit, and the Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit) to maintain its unique qualities and ways in which it interacts and communicates with the communities with which it has become so closely related. He hopes we will share the best practices of each unit that might benefit all the units and communities, while maintaining those practices uniquely suited to each community's needs. Read More...

ALERT! Online Hook-Ups
The Internet offers some great opportunities to meet people in a non-threatening environment, but with that anonymity comes an opportunity for criminals to prey upon vulnerable and/or unsuspecting victims. Crimes such as theft, robbery, assaults (sexual and non-sexual), fraud and identity theft are all possible forms of victimization experienced by people who choose to use the Internet as a place to meet new acquaintances. Here are some very basic ways in which you can minimize your risk of be victimized:
• Stay Sober, Know Your Limits
• Be Aware
• Protect your Identity and Personal Information
• Document the Liaison
• Get a Photo
• Talk on the Phone Before Meeting
• Meet in Public
• Have an Escape Plan
• Don't Take Valuables
• Notify the Police
As summer heats up, the MPD's Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit (GLLU) experiences increased calls regarding individuals who have been victimized after meeting someone on the Internet. To get more details, view an article on the MPD Web site. Contact a member of the GLLU at 1-877-495-5995. |

Help Us With Our Business Contact List

The Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit (GLLU) of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is compiling a list of after-hours contact information for local GLBT owned, operated and/or related businesses. This data will enable the GLLU staff to contact a business owner more efficiently and rapidly in case an emergency strikes a business after it has closed. Up until now, GLLU officers have not always had a way to contact a business owner when something happened after business hours. With this new collaborative effort, the GLLU hopes to unite with the business community in continuing to make the city a safer place for everyone as well as be more responsive to the needs of the community.
Businesses who wish to participate in the program can download an Emergency Contact Form here. The PDF form can be filled out directly on your computer and you can e-mail it to Officer Joe Morquecho at
(or e-mail him with questions). If you prefer to print and fill it out manually, you can fax the completed form to 202-724-4120. |
